Card Design and Customization
For this design project, I was tasked with creating a game of my choice, whether physical or digital. Inspired by watching One Piece, I envisioned a collaboration between One Piece and Uno to develop a themed card game. One Piece is a long-running anime and manga series that follows Monkey D. Luffy, an ambitious young pirate, as he assembles a diverse crew to search for the legendary treasure known as the One Piece. This storyline served as the foundation for my game design.
I began by designing the cards, starting with basic rectangular shapes and a custom bubble font. Character selection was central to maintaining the game’s visual identity. I curated images of Luffy’s crew, the villains they face, and the magical Devil Fruits that grant special powers.
Unlike traditional Uno’s four-color suits, this version features seven colors, each representing a crew member and their signature look. To enhance gameplay dynamics, I used standing character poses for the number cards (1–9) and action poses for the “Skip” and “Reverse” cards, capturing moments of conflict and excitement.
Villain characters were prominently featured on the “Draw Two” and “Draw Four” cards to emphasize their disruptive nature. Devil Fruits, known for their randomness and power in the series, became the ideal subject for Wild cards. By adding rainbow tint to the original devil fruit designs, I created visually cohesive and unique wild cards that complements the overall game theme.
